Cloud computing has brought about a step change in the economics and sustainability of Information and Communication Technology (ICT).
The Government is committed to the adoption of cloud computing and the G-Cloud is an iterative programme of work to achieve this - delivering fundamental changes in the way that the public sector procures and operates ICT.
The primary aim of G-Cloud strategy is to:
- achieve large, cross government economies of scale
- deliver ICT systems that are flexible and responsive to demand in order to support government policies and strategies
- take advantage of new technologies in order to deliver faster business benefits and reduce cost
- meet environmental and sustainability targets
- allow government to procure in a way that encourages a dynamic and responsive supplier marketplace and supports emerging suppliers.
Solutions awarded a place on the G-Cloud framework can be procured directly by public sector organisations without the need for an OJEU procurement process or mini-competition. This not only saves money but also dramatically shortens the time to implementation. Symology recognised the importance and benefits of the G-Cloud from the outset and has been awarded placement on each iteration of the framework since its inception.
Under G-Cloud 9, Symology offer five Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) solutions:
Street Works Notice Management - Pay-Per-Works Managed Service
Symology offer a full Street Works Register solution in a low cost “Pay-per-Works” model over the cloud. The solution enables the recording of Street Works Notices, Permits, Comments and Inspection records in accordance with the Street Works Codes of Practice and Statutory requirements.
This Insight Pay-per-Works system has a full National Street Gazetteer (NSG) for England and Wales, which is populated and maintained by Symology, in line with the monthly publication of the NSG. This contains Street records, together with Associated Street Data (ASD) to define the Ownership and Interests, Special Designations and Reinstatement Category of streets.
In addition, the system supplies users with Embedded Reporting tools, providing all the exception reports required to monitor the progress of Street Works Notices. The results of enquiries can be exported directly to CSV, Excel and XML formats and saved locally.
The end user connects to the service over the Internet and can immediately start using the system. A low set-up fee gets you started, and then a fixed cost per works processed thereafter.
The service can be enhanced by the optional facility of embedded mapping. Providing the ability to plot works on the map and automatically store the OSGR with the Works record.
Street Works EToN Attachment Hosting
Symology’s Street Works EToN Attachment Hosting service provides a complete one-stop solution to make these documents available to third-parties without any local user intervention or support
A comprehensive solution is provided which includes mirroring the objects to a publicly accessible web server, provision of storage space, network bandwidth and service desk support.
Hosted Street Works FTP and Web Services
Symology offers a comprehensive package of internet services, which may be tailored to meet individual site requirements. As a complement to Insight operations, they provide the benefit of a one-stop "turnkey" service for communication needs such as Electronic Transmission of Street Works Notices. A complete service can be provided, including registration of the required domain or IP addresses, installation of software and hardware, set up and maintenance of an ongoing account, all hosting facilities and provision of FTP space. Symology offer a one-stop arrangement, such that customers only deal with Symology for all aspects of the service.
Symology offer a hosted, managed and security-controlled FTP site which can be used as a staging point for incoming data, to avoid the security dangers of allowing anonymous access into local networks. Together with sophisticated software to automate the data transmission process, including inbuilt security and audit trails, these options offer an effective, competitive and safe way of achieving successful inter-operability.
